Kanata Livington is a half Japanese, half English 19 year old who has come to Japan for two reasons. First, he is searching for his missing father. Second, he wants to compete in MFG, a highly popular form of no-holds-barred, white knuckle auto racing which is all the more popular because cars driven by internal combustion engines are very rare in this not-too-distant future. He'll be staying with the family of Ren Saionji, who happens to perform as an MFG Angel, a sort of racetrack cheerleader.

I guess the one thing that most struck me about episode one was that the plot of this show is clearly much more complex than most. Kanata--he now goes by the family name of Katagiri--has a problem besides winning races, namely his missing father. Ren is struck by him at first sight, despite being previously dismissive of such romances. Another driver, Shun Aiba, has a crush on her and has befriended Kanata without knowing that he's the man Ren is really interested in. Kanata meets a former MFG driver who has a hot car that he's willing to let Kanata drive. All this in the space of one episode--I was sure that Kanata would compete in his first race before this episode was over, but that will have to wait for episode two. So, the writing seems very professional. It looks like the cast will be very large. The ANN synopsis said that driverless cars were now typical, but I didn't notice any of them. Also, I have little idea what a 'grip-to-weight ratio' is or if it will really matter. Since there hasn't been a race yet, I don't know how exciting those will be, but I am definitely on board for episode two. Definitely a show which is making an honest effort to be good.
