Feeling more like an extended episode of the original 90s anime instead of an actual movie, you can think of this as a sort of bridge between the original anime and Duel Monsters as Konami started to release a card game based on the one played by Kaiba and Yugi by this point and Kazuki Takahashi would change the manga source material's plot to focus more on the card game. This is reflected in the changes to the card game rules for this movie and aesthetics to how the duels are played out with the rules being more closer to how the game was played during the Duel Monsters anime's Duelist Kingdom arc and the use of Kaiba Corporation's technology to create holographic technology to bring life to the monsters and Spell/ Trap cards played for the game. The story for this one is kind of typical with a young boy created exclusively for this film having issues of confidence in playing the card game after getting a rare monster card and Kaiba hosting a game tournament to prove his superiority in the game and avenge his prior loss to Yugi's alter ego, and the outcome of Yugi and Kaiba's match in the movie's second half is rather predictable if you've seen how the Duel Monsters anime conducts their duels. In short, this is more a treat for diehard Yu-gi-oh! fans since this was at the point where the series became an advertisement for Konami's Duel Monsters trading card game.
