Nagomu is a man who left his home in Kyoto and his family's confectionary shop when he became a musician. Upon hearing that his father has been hospitalized though, he comes back home to take over the family business. However, while he was gone, a young girl named Itsuka started working at the shop. The whereabouts of Itsuka's parents is unknown, and she has no other relatives, and Nagomu finds himself as foster parent for Itsuka. Itsuka, on the other hand, dislikes Nagomu for abandoning the family to become a musician. She proclaims that it will be her who will take over the shop one day instead of Nagomu.

Deaimon is a slice-of-life series involving our male lead Nagomu reuniting with his family to help with running his family's confectionery shop and caring for 10-year old Itsuka, who is left in his family's care while her parents are abroad. The series focuses on the everyday happenings of Nagomu, Itsuka, and the Yukihira family; while also having some light drama coming from the personal issues with the major characters that include exploring why Nagomu chose to return home to his family and Itsuka coping with missing her parents. The series provides a good amount of fleshing out on Nagomu, Itsuka, and a few of the major characters; providing enough to have you care for them. While the series may not be everyone's cup of tea given its slice-of-life premise, I'd still regard Deaimon as one of the more low-key offerings of the Spring 2022 season and would at least recommend seeing it once if you're looking for a light slice-of-life drama to dabble into.

Unevaluated Stretch [series:4458#628]
(One episode watched)

This show hasn't really grabbed my attention. It isn't all that funny (though the one 'big gag' almost made me LOL) and the story doesn't interest me much either. I suspect the problem is that neither of the two main characters struck me as interesting people. Nagomu has been wandering for ten years or so, but he has a sort of an excuse (his now deceased grandfather basically gave him permission to enter some other trade). And he was once so into confection making that he would cry when the precious products were sold to strangers. So, he basically has nothing to be ashamed of, a point which was probably included so that we viewers would like him. But it makes him seem kind of boring to me. I'd like to see a character who really had done something seriously wrong and needed to make amends for once. Itsuka was abandoned by her parents and has a sort of trauma caused by her father once telling her she was a nuisance. That's why she works so hard. But this phobia isn't all that convincing (it gets just a brief mention), and she too really has no flaws and therefore seems pretty 2D to me. If the jokes are not LOL funny the plot will have to carry the weight here, and I doubt I can get into a plot about such uninteresting people. But I could be wrong. Still, I am wary of committing to this show.
