Choose your ideal boyfriend: the handsome (though the club members prefer not to use that term) and brilliant artist, the handsome and brilliant orator, the handsome and brilliant businessman, the handsome and brilliant anti-hero, or the handsome and brilliant leader. I got the impression that these hot dudes (do they have any flaws at all other than perhaps narcissism?) are supposed to be this show's main draw, not the solving of mysteries. Indeed, episode one is largely an introduction to the club members and little progress is made towards solving Dojima's problem, which is why a brilliant star was visible on her birthday ten years ago but hasn't been since. Was it a supernova? a comet? did she just imagine it? I sort of wonder what the solution will be, but I doubt if it will be all that amazing. It may be that she will be granted a sort of observer position within the club, to act as a blank stand-in who allows middle school aged girls to imagine themselves in the same position. These guys don't really annoy me, despite their eccentric personalities, but they don't thrill me either. They seem too good to be true (which is kind of boring), and as a result it seems this show was meant for girls. Dojima is actually the character I most identify with, not one of these super talented and super pretty boys.
