This adaptation of The Little Mermaid is actually a more closer adaptation of the classic children's story from Hans Christian Andersen, lacking the musical numbers and more happy ending from the more well-known and popular 1989 Disney animated film. As a result, this film is more tragic in exploring the developments of the titular mermaid who desires to become human in claiming the love of a human prince yet has to make major sacrifices from a witch in order to have her desire fulfilled, making the film feel more faithful to its source material than the many liberties taken with it from Disney's adaptation. The animation is rather dated to modern standards, but actually rather decent for the time it was made as characters move about at a decent pace and I couldn't find any noticeable animation shortcuts or errors. Overall, it's a solid film and provided you have no problem with the topless mermaids, this should be okay for families to check out with their children.
