Lately I've been trying to write my own synopses for new anime rather than just copying them from ANN, but here I reverted to the old practice--because hardly a damn word of the information above was revealed to us in episode one of SRX. That's not a good sign. I do not recall any mention of a Blue World or a Red one, it was just a thoroughly confusing mess in which some cool dudes called 'Riders' find themselves obliged to transform into Power Ranger-like suits and take on big, slimy monsters that somehow appear at an airport. The episode was swarming with fancy terminology ("Dirigents", "Life after God", "Nightfly O' Note"(?), "Valvatron Drive", etc, etc), but there seemed to be little substance to tie the terms together. So much crazy stuff with little indication of what's really going on that I could only be bewildered. A good show tells enough of a story to keep the viewer interested but doesn't give away so much of the plot that it becomes predictable. SRX seemed to not want to tell us anything--we could have the terms, but not much of a definition for any of them. And why did that woman shoot a man dead when he objected to shipping the 'Dirigent' to the Ryukyu area? Does that make her one of the bad guys? Or was he? Instead of telling much of a story, the sheer coolness of these Rider guys (with their deadly looking motorcycles in the ED sequence) is apparently supposed to satisfy us. But I need some idea of where I stand in order to enjoy a suspenseful story, and I got very little of that from SRX. This show is looking like tons of window dressing with little substance behind it. I must admit I did feel somewhat intrigued when just what is inside the Dirigent crate was revealed to us, but I have a strong feeling that no engaging plot is ever going to materialize from SRX.
