After once seeing her father driving out of that castle, she returned home to excitedly tell her mother, not realizing she'd just described her father's infidelity. And so her family falls apart, and after her father tells her it was all her fault, she falls into despair until a strange egg tells her she can save herself from further heartbreak, and maybe even find her prince on a hill. All it would take is to forever seal away her dangerous voice.

Anthem of the Heart is a teen drama film focused on Jun Narase having lost her voice from the magic of an egg years ago and finds herself in high school being part of a committee to organize a school performance involving her classmates. Members of the committee include popular boy Takumi, his former girlfriend Natsuki and former baseball ace Daiki. Like Jun, these three characters carry their own emotional baggage that they work through as all four come together to organize the school performance.

Anthem of the Heart is effective for the most part as a teen drama thanks to offering a good deal of depth on its four lead characters. The movie's two-hour span offers a good deal of time exploring the issues affecting our four leads and the developments that each one undergo to come to terms with said issues. Outside of Jun's family troubles, the movie also explores the strained relationship between Natsuki and Takumi, as well as Daiki's problems with returning to baseball thanks to an arm injury. The chemistry between the four starts off strained and tense from their issues, but gradually improves as they better understand their situations and use Jun's idea for the play as a means to express the inner problems she suffered from her past ordeals. The movie does have its shortcomings with expressing its drama at points where characters can usually get too vocal with expressing their feelings and dabble into overblown drama cliches.

Visually, Anthem of the Heart is quite pleasing on the eyes with gorgeous scenic shots, detailed character designs and fluid animation. The film is able to maintain its high quality animation in differing camera shots and angles without loss of detail or movement looking off.

While having its hiccups at points with conveying its drama, Anthem of the Heart is still a solid teen drama worth checking out thanks to the developments faced by the four main characters of the film as they put together their school performance.
