A retelling of Makoto Shinkai's original first work, She and Her Cat: Everything Flows retains the original OVA's focus on a cat observing the life of its owner yet offers some expanded developments with its storytelling as it explores how the cat is adopted by its owner and he observes her through varying stages of her life as she goes through college and struggles raising her daughter from childhood into adulthood. As the events of the series are seen through the cat's eyes, Everything Flows employs a minimalist storytelling style as the cat narrates how he perceives the events that his owners live out throughout his life span. The animation style employs low-key shading and soft color tones that are fitting for the mundane and minimalist approach that this short series offers up. Overall, Everything Flows is a solid work whose minimalist storytelling makes for a worthwhile half-hour viewing.
