Girl Friend BETA
(One episode watched):
The ANN page regarding this show described it as falling within the yuri category among others. That was news to me, because episode one may well have set a record as the most boring introductory episode of any anime I have ever watched. I got little idea of what way this show was supposed to go; not very funny--not even trying to be, apparently--a hint of fanservice, but less than usual, just a dozen or so girls at this school are given a brief introduction, but get no depth at all. Even protagonist (I assume) Kokomi, who spends the episode trying to return a lost item, comes across as a nice girl but nothing more than that. For God's sake, I asked myself while watching, could something of interest happen? At least these girls don't argue about bust size or crap like that. And then the episode is over; there is no revelation of some conflict which will need to be resolved, not even a hint of such a thing, the girls haven't got the personality for this to be slice-of-life, it doesn't seem to be about Kokomi competing in gymnastics, and it certainly isn't a comedy, so what am I supposed to watch for? It does nothing right, it does nothing wrong, it just does nothing. And now I learn that it will turn out to be yuri romance; but I can't imagine a show as painfully dull as this ever developing a watch-worthy story. Somebody forgot to tell the writers of Girlfriend BETA that the first episode of a new series needs to grab the attention of viewers and convince them to watch additional episodes as well.
