This final film in the Mardock Scramble film trilogy continues from Second Combustion as Balot tries getting the evidence she needs to arrest Shell and uncovers some shocking reasons surrounding why he murders teenage girls. This causes Balot some moral conflict over what to do against Shell when he evades police custody and tries finding him as things build up to a final battle with Boiled. The movie does well at knowing when to be slow with its pacing and then picking up on things as the movie starts off slow during Balot's struggles at the casino to get Shell's data and then picks up in the second half when she must deal with Shell, Boiled and a bunch of hired thugs. The high quality animation from the prior two movies is retained here, with the highlights for it coming from Balot's run-n-gun against a bunch of thugs and her final battle with Boiled. If you've been hooked on the Mardock Scramble film series up to this point, Third Exhaust provides a satisfying conclusion to the film trilogy with Balot's struggles.
