the first film left off, the Second Combustion features Rune coming to terms with her abuse of Ouefcoque's abilities following their encounter with Boiled and his thugs, as well as making their last ditch effort to find incriminating evidence on Rune's former lover. This film is more focused on advancing the plot this time around, so there aren't as many character-driven moments compared to the first film. However, it does shed more light on the past relationship that Ouefcoque and Boiled had, featuring some parallels to the way Rune became crazed with Ouefcoque's power in her brutal disposal of Boiled's thugs from the previous film. Considering this is only the second part of the film trilogy, Second Combustion is left open-ended for the final film in the series. Compared to the first film, there isn't as much graphic content here in Second Combustion. The only notable moments featured in the Director's Cut version of the movie I seen featuring gratuitous content come in some extended nude shots of Balot at "Paradise" and a couple scenes of dismemberment and gore thanks to a thug attacking the place. Second Combustion retains the high quality presentation of the first film with plenty of visual detail on the city landscapes and characters; subdued color tones to accompany its tense, dark mood; seamless integration of CG animation in the animated content; and fluid movement from all characters onscreen. Overall, Second Combustion continues on with its plot in Balot's efforts to thwart Shell's criminal activity, while shedding some light on elements of the film trilogy's storyline. I look forward to seeing the conclusion to this film trilogy. Last updated Saturday, April 20 2013. Created Saturday, April 20 2013. |
