Yet another Yamato movie in my set to plow through with all the typical problems to expect from a Leiji Matsumoto work (limited to no character depth, enough deus ex machina and lack of logic to apply in its sci-fi elements) and some pretty sloppy efforts at drama caused by Starsha being an idiot for not leaving Iskander when she became aware of the trouble facing her planet. Either they retconned the finale of Farewell to Yamato or this movie is a followup to the second TV series, which I heard adapted Farewell, expanded on some plot elements to it and changed the ending to make it not so depressing (gonna go with the latter case here considering the many retcons that Captain Harlock titles go through). Regardless, I'd still only recommend this if you are a huge sap for Yamato stuff or Leiji Matsumoto works.
