This fun little romp from the creative minds at Type-Moon takes character and story aspects from their well-known works like Fate/stay night and Tsukihime and making things go completely topsy-turvy. Wanna see the Holy Grail Wars as a game show? Wanna see how a beach retreat with Shiki and his female companions go? Wanna see Lancer become the title's resident doormat? Carnival Phantasm delivers all this to you and isn't afraid at taking occasional jabs at the fourth wall. One has to have seen enough of Type-Moon's works to understand Carnival Phantasm's humor as it will be lost on those who have yet to touch any title from the franchise. Not to mention some of the show's comedy bits might not be enjoyed by everyone as I didn't find myself laughing at some of the earlier segments of the series like Arcueid's mahou shoujo bits and an improvised act upon three minor Tsukihime characters. Still if you wanted to see a more comedic side to your favorite Type-Moon works, this is definitely worth a look.
