I really second AstroNerdBoy. All that I have wanted to say, has already been said by him. I was really looking forward to something fresh, alas, the jokes were getting stale and there's nothing new, really. And besides that, I want Ranma and Akane's ROMANCE! Too bad they made them 'all shy' and denied everything blah blah after he rescued Akane. Blech. A total letdown, even (or should I say especially) for a die-hard Ranma fan like me. Anyway, for a real Ranma fan, this is a must-buy. Otherwise, ahem. There are always other alternatives. :D

This first Ranma movie feels like a multi-part TV episode rather than a movie. Had Viz used wide screen rather than full screen on the DVD, it would helped a bit. Otherwise, everything proceeded as it would in the TV series. I have to say that while Happosai starting the movie was annoying, the chase scene that soon follows with all of the Ranma-verse ending up chasing him was humorous and certainly worthy of a classic "Benny Hill" chase. But that's where the humor ended for me. After that every joke was just a retread of the same old jokes done for seven seasons in Ranma 1/2. Even the chase is an old joke, but it was a good excuse to work in a bunch of cameos. There was some humor with the elephant which was nice, but still a retread of the old jokes done before. Not only were most of the jokes old, but the story was an old retread as well. Akane willfully misunderstands Ranma being with some girl. Ranma says something stupid. Some powerful person with a new, bizarre martial arts technique kicks Ranma's butt and takes Akane. Ranma must rescue Akane. Sound familiar? It does if you've seen the TV series. So I'm sad to say that I was a lot bored with what came up onscreen. It is a shame too because I was really looking forward to seeing this movie. Bottom line: Of the 7th season of the TV show was good to you, then you'll enjoy this for sure. Ranma fans will want to see it to finish the entire franchise if for no other reason. However for me, the lack of anything fresh in this movie was a real turn off.Last updated Sunday, July 18 2004. Created Wednesday, July 14 2004. |

This is typical Ranma 1/2 comedy. Basically Akane gets kidnapped by a prince named Kirin, who wields the longest pair of chopsticks I've ever seen in my entire life...he could kill someone with those things. Kirin kidnapped Akane with intentions of marrying her, due to some mix-up with a scroll, so naturally Ranma and his crew go to Nekonron to rescue her. Kappei Yamaguchi is great as the male Ranma. I didn't like Sarah Strange as male Ranma in the English dub, not that I think she's a bad actress, but because a male should've been cast to play male Ranma. Richard Cox should have been cast as male Ranma from the start. I also prefer Yo Yoshimura as Ebiten, he was hilarious. Especially during the scene in which Ebiten kicks Ranma's ass. Everyone else in the English dub was pretty good. Paul Dobson was really good as Happosai, and Daikokusei. The music's pretty good too. It's all instrumental tracks, with the exception of the theme song by Rabbit, 'It's Love'. All the other songs are smooth and pretty. The only thing I didn't like about this movie, was the fact that Ranma got his ass kicked several times throughout the film, but that just made it all the more amusing to watch. At a price of $5.00, Ranma 1/2: Big Trouble in Nekonron, China is a pretty good buy. It will certainly make you laugh. Last updated Wednesday, March 30 2005. Created Sunday, June 22 2003. |
This one's old, but still worth buying. The movie opens with Happosai engaged in his usual pervertish antics...the stealing of the neighborhood women's panties and bras.||||||||

Yeah, this original film isn't the best of Ranma, but it is good enough to purchase. Though the animation is not much different from the series this movie manages to entertain. There are some really good fight scenes and the music is fairly memorable. My only regret is that Ukyo, and Kodachi were not in much of it.

Similar to the Bruce Lee Movie "The Game of Death," Ranma must kick azz to save Akane. If your looking for something that has several weird battles, very bad cooking, and even an elephant to boot, this is for you!

This is a good Ranma, and I can not think of any nodity in this one, but there is quit a bet in most of them! So don't take my word on it, just the same I would not let kids watch this one, my reason can be somed up in one word "Happy"! But this one is really really sweet as are most of them! But just as a worning if you don't like nodity don't start watching this anime, you wont be able to stop watching!

This and the other Ranma movie are the only things of Ranma that I have seen (yeah, it is sad). But these two movies really make me want to go out and see Ranma. The storyline is kind of predictable and stale (Akane kidnapped, Ranma saves her in a huge misadventure). But the movie is so funny and so well done that it doesn't matter much. I still love the character designs of all the odd people in and around the Tendo Training Hall (especially Ranma-f, Ukyo, Mousse, that guy with the boken who I have currently forgotten his name). The music isn't all that noticeable. The fighting sequences are okay, better than several animes whose whole premice is on fighting <<coughs Tekken and Grappler Baki>>. This is a must-buy for any fans of the series and a should-buy for just about any anime fan, na no da. Last updated Wednesday, February 07 2001. Created Wednesday, February 07 2001. |

Ranma 1/2 movies. Both the first and second movies are about the same in plot, some guy kidnaps Akane and Ranma must go off and save her. However just like the OVA's it has some good artwork and animation. Not much on character development seeing how most of it was done in the 7 year TV series.
