Eureka 7 fans by doing a "re-imagined" storyline, I do have to admit that it is quite flawed. While the visuals are up a notch with more fluid battle scenes plus higher quality artwork and the developments of Renton and Eureka are decently fleshed out, I couldn't help but feel that the entire alien invasion storyline was just a backdrop for Renton/ Eureka fans to ogle over their developments. Other than some developments with Holland and Talho, the entire crew of the Gecko and other characters from the TV series seemed to be around either just to take up space for fans to take notice of for cameos (Moondoggie and Eureka's adoptive children for example) or just to advance the plot (the two crew members who attack Eureka). Not to mention once Eureka is retrieved by Renton, there's no sign of the aliens to be seen beyond that point, except when they are mentioned by the military during the later half of the movie. If you want to have more Eureka/ Renton goodness from seeing the TV series, then this movie offers up quite a bit of it. But if you're expecting anything else with the other characters, then I recommend you don't waste your time watching this movie unless you want to be in for some great disappointment.

While I'm not so cynical over this movie being nothing but a cash-in for Bandai to milk off ||||||||

Some movies are actually ‘condensed’ versions of a longer series, which focus on the primary story elements and characters, and excludes/deletes most of the minor characters and story threads – so for the most part, they usually work at this level. And then we have those movies that are a ‘retelling’ of the original story…… Take a good series with a lot of interesting characters enmeshed in a deep and strong story that can only be told in a 24-episode format, and THEN TRASH IT!! Then rewrite the script loosely based on the original series, forget any character development, then include nonsensical and inconsequential cameo appearances of any left over characters. Increase the quality of the animation, over hype it so that it can be ‘sold’ as a movie and then farm out to the devoted fans of the original series. IMHO, this title is almost as bad as the Escaflowne Movie, but whatever. If you really liked the original Eureka series, then pls don’t bother watching this (it might be too painful.) If you happen to trip over this title while trying to break into your neighbor’s car, then yes, it is probably worth spending 90-minutes to watch (as long as you don’t expect too much). Sigh… yet another one of those 90-minute long trash, crash and burn movies….||||||||
