Tokyo Marble Chocolate pulls a rather unique storytelling method for its run by showing its story through the perspectives of both Chizuru and Yudai in each episode of this OVA series as they start up a relationship with one another and relate their differing problems with approaching love. There's enough fleshing out on both characters where you know the type of people they are and you can connect with them, as well as having bits of comedy tossed around thanks to the antics of the mini-donkey helping to bring Chizuru and Yudai together. The comedy wasn't getting me laughing and I can't really picture myself wanting to rewatch this much thanks to its simple premise and short length. But I will give its premise kudos for offering something unique and I'd say that the series is still worth a watch once to see something unique offered from a storytelling perspective.

Tokyo Marble Chocolate (I still haven't a clue why that title was chosen) was not a masterpiece of anime, but was a fun, sweet romance story with a fairly unusual twist, namely seeing things from both lover's points of view. I was unsure how this would be done, or whether it would be all that novel, but it worked out okay. It didn't make me gasp in the presence of brilliance, but it was fun to see how misunderstandings came about for understandable reasons. I read one claim that it didn't matter which part you watched first, and another which specified that it should be Chizuru's version, so I went with the latter. Each of my Live-eviL fansubs segments was around 27 minutes long. The simple yet distinctive character designs reminded me of American cartoons from the 'twenties or 'thirties. The strange "Mini-Donkey" plays a larger part than I'd expected, and gave this a sort of Walt Disney-esque feel. Half an hour focused on each character allows you to get to know them, and even though some of the events were somewhat implausible I felt good at the end.
