Goddanar is a super robot anime focused on married couple Anna and Goh being the main fighting pair for a pair of mecha that can combine together in the fight against a mysterious alien threat. While the series dabbles in a number of cliches typical of mecha anime like hot-blooded fighters and calling out attacks, there is a more serious ongoing plot that gradually develops through the discovery of Goh's old lover Mira returning and more facts about the alien menace causing some shocking developments to come up with the fight against them. In addition, the mecha combination gimmick leads to some interesting exploration of the relationship dynamics of pairings besides Goh and Anna. Also as a fair warning, Godannar is infamous among mecha fans for its heavy offering of fan service as big-chested women, scantily-clad attire, camera shots at certain body parts, bath scenes and gainaxing are a regular sight throughout the series and may turn off those who are not into excessive amounts of fan service. Still in spite of its heavy fan service and super robot cliches, Godannar is still a decent entry in the mecha genre thanks to its later plot developments and exploration of relationship dynamics between the pairings who pilot mecha.

I didn't finish godannar...Being a HUGE Mecha Fan, and a man who thinks IKKI is cool, i should have been all over this...But alas, I didn't like it...The animation was good, but I just didn't like the way the characters were drawn...And the Mecha looked cool too, but they seemed waaaaayyyyy to fluid in there movements...I didn't even dig the story line, and I am easy...I give it a watch rating, because if you like fanservice, and you like mecha, maybe you need to watch for yourself and be the judge...all others, just avoid it...

I've finished Godannar today and I gotta say I probably wasted almost $140 for the entire series. The art and animation came off really slick but it was the story was covered up by the fanservice and the humor. At times, most of the scenes were focused more on the punchline than on the story. The first few episodes were ok but then the fillers just made the rest so boring. Like I said before, there are 2 things that make a good anime and if one is missing the whole thing bombs. The art/animation was there but the story really didn't make me interested. I would advise to buy it if the story was developed a little better and a whole lot less meaingless slapstick humor. I know the anime isn't based on complete seriousness, but it came off as childish at some points. What really threw me off was the english dubbing had a lot of people yelling. Almost every scene, someone is screaming their lungs out for maybe one or two sentences. Especially, near the end when just about every character decides they need to yell every line. Now, I like over the top comedy but when that outweighs the plot, it's just not going to work. Even with two of my favorite english voice actors, Brett Weaver & Tiffany Grant, the series was still not good enough. Fanservice freaks will enjoy this for the T & A but if you like mecha and comedy, I would only suggest a watch ranking. I believe you can't compare this series with Martian Successor Nadesico since most of the comedy in Nadesico wasn't based of slapstick but a but more funnier than Godannar. Final word: Watch.

This is a great mix between mecha action, love and.....ecchi. There is A LOT of fanservice here which you can probably tell by the picture (some costumes are even skimmpie3r than that).

I actually found most of this very enjoyable, the art is art (love the pictures from the artbook). And the charcater designs are also good. This is the first anime I've seen where the mechas themselves also have big breast!

But similiar titles includes the Gravion Zwei.

Ecchi fans should watch this.

Drama : Med
Comedy : High
Action : High
SciFi : High
Ecchi : Med

Filled with TON's of Cliches. The cast of GoDannar play this anime as though it was a drama and not a comedy. All the comedy scenes seem to be taken in stride as if they happen all the time. This really looks like Martian Successor Nadesico redone on Earth instead of Space. Everyone is in the middle of a large drama and no one seems to realize that everything they do is funny.

Also this is how they should've done Gravion. Fanservice galore but they don't comment on the fact that they wear skin tight outfits and the chief (Who's a woman) keeps her cell phone in her bra and set on vibrate.

This might be my next keeper. I just hope they don't bring in clones.
