Lost in a very strange time in the Meiji Era, when old feudal Japan was being changed by the influences of the west and when youkai could openly walk the streets, three daughters of former samurai struggle to keep the peace of Kyoto. The arrival of Ryuunosuke, the son of the owner of the company they work for, would normally be a harbinger of much good fortune, or is it?

Appears we have ourselves a harem comedy anime within Meiji era Japan that mixes in youkai and Western-themed items considering an amusement park and one of the women in the apparent harem was packing a revolver. The show appears to be trying to make itself a nonsensical comedy with the random and bizarre moments that popped up at points in the first episode yet I couldn’t find myself laughing at the antics of the characters and any pure comedy title that doesn’t grab my interest enough from the start is normally dead on arrival, which will be the case for me with Moeyo Ken.

Avoid Jan-Chan [series:1079#967]
When the reviewer Kbanger1 gave the OVA of this series an AVOID rating, my reaction was that we all have something that we really don’t like. I think I was wrong. I don’t know if the TV series is better or worse than the OVA, but this series is the worst new release anime series that I encountered in the past two years.

The three samurai gals are working for the Kidou Shinsengumai Corporation as private law enforcers. Using sword, pistol and magic, they violently chase down unlicensed youkai in the streets and compel them present themselves the local bureau of youkai-registration, (sounds kind of pointless?) Pitted against them are a trio from a rival group, who are intent on upstaging them in the glory of keeping the streets of Kyoto safe. The arrival of owner's son, Ryuunosuke, who has been living in Shanghai for the past six years learning the ways of the west, is accepted as an omen of change for the better as the Kidou Corporation is struggling against repeated failures and troublesome debts. Ryuunosuke soon proves himself to have the most amazing abilities - skills that are sorely absent in the rest of the team, the most important skill being that of common sense!

This series is really bad! The three samurai gals are always quick to attack everything in sight, causing only mayhem and damage, incurring only more pointless debts. They have a techno-inventor who is always creating pointless and absurd new weapons. The rival trio are vapid egotistic antagonists who engage in the pointless harassment of defenseless youkai for their own personal satisfaction. A member of their team is a round potato boy, who carries a bazooka (with unlimited rounds) with limited linguistic skills, who can only talk about his love of Chinese cabbage in nabe. They pretend to be youkai exterminators, but the only thing that they appear to be competent at is causing an incompetent ruckus and destroying the local buildings. This series is really quite pointless and bad.

If it were a parody, then I might find some forgiveness. If this series were to try to offer something new or entertaining, then I might find some enjoyment. But just jumbling a story line together in a moronic three-stooges old-world meets new-world way just does NOT really make the cut. Sorry, this is really a very bad anime series.

If you are looking for a good series that takes place in the same era with all of the same thematic elements, then check out Tactics which is well worth watching.
