She has within her the power of the Dragon God and is welcomed as a savior; but has she come to save Kyou, or destroy it? While she struggles to control her power, her demon summoner works behind the scenes to use her as a tool of vengeance. To make matters worse, the 8 Hachiyou who would defend her have not yet been fully gathered. Even as they come to Akane’s side, they must first fight their own demons before they can help her return Kyou’s gods…(Summary from http://www.anime-planet.com/)

Hm, the beginnings of this series reminds me of a variety of anime. The based upon mythology is similiar to Fushigi Yuugi (and even alittle bit of X), the method, Escaflowne and Inuyasha, and the character design (and sequence of events)--Juuni Kokuki. Heh. It's not a clone, but its similiar enough that the recognition pops into my head.

ugh, a harem series, why didn't i recognize it from the picture? (aside from Akane, they're ALL male.)

it's got a nice idea, a nice storyline. the characters are pretty, the OST is pretty. it would make for a great series, except...whoever wrote the script, whoever directed it, just...sucks. everything, every situation, most every dialogue between the characters feels CONTRIVED.

none of the characters are interesting enough. They try to insert backstory or humor to liven up the main cast personalities but again it's all very CONTRIVED and/or ridiculously random. reasons behind motivations are so weak. i'm almost disgusted. What doesn't help with the character personality factor is the animation. Heh, while the characters might be pretty, the facial expressions are really dead sometimes. There's just really no emotional depth. They're all pretty flat, even Akane, our main girl, is flat, and we see most of the emotion from her. and all the members of the hachiyou are just SO mysteriously cool and "skilled" that really, 8 is pushing it. 8 is really unnecessary. i think 4 would have done it. Yasuaki's the only one really necessary anyway, heh. He seems to be the one doing most everthing anyway. and later, when he regains his "humanity" he's even funny. i <3 him, but he can't save this series.

Apparently they tried to do everything in this series, romance, epic adventure, magical, mystical adventure, humor, mystery and even politics later. But everything falls short. way, way short. try to get all the hachiyou? they sit around and talk about it yea, but nobody goes to look, because magically, magically the hachiyou members fall right into their laps. need a reason to give them their powers? pull up an oni (demon) to "attack" or cause trouble. for someone whos a target, they sure do allow akane to wander away a lot. what the hell are the demons doing anyway?

really, all the elements in the story are very very vaguely touched upon (and almost horribly executed), but nothing is fleshed out--much like the characters. explanations for events are simply explained, as if that's all we needed to know. demons cause the crops to die? how? why? no reason at all. where are the ramifications of the kidnapped gods? nothing's happening. They jump from point A to conclusion B and they don't show you how they get there. and things happen that have you going...what? how the hell did they get there? i thought he was supposed to die? really, no explanations whatsoever.

and she falls in love with akram? really? why? because he asked if she was lonely? because he hugs her? because he told her of his tragic tragic family past? lol. i don't understand the reasoning (what little there is) at all. i'd even buy the "because he's demonically beautiful and mesmerizing," but yea.... i feel like they just put it in to have that "should she choose between the hachiyou or akram? good or evil? lol, she too clueless to even...she's not even angsty enough to have that "destroy the hateful world" vibe. i don't understand.

oh. my. god. the scene i just saw was just utterly ridiculous. and yea, I'm not watching anymore. it's unbearable. the set up of the scene was aimed towards dramatic/tragic/angst and yet, and yet, characters were suddenly out of character (stupidly standing there when always they always showed up nearly instantly if she even felt bad and waiting until she was almost gone to react). no no NO. there was absolutely no reason for them to do that. they weren't immobolized or anything. there was no shock, no late reaction. the enemy was already gone. oh my GOD it's so stupid. although...the last quarter of that ep (13) was the best scene so far, even if it was still flawed.

this series has SO MUCH POTENTIAL. but what i've seen so far is disappointing to say the least. i'm done. maybe it'll get better later, episode 14 starts in a new direction (finding seals) now that the hachiyou are all found, but i'm just disgusted. it's so poorly executed. so...yea, watch it, decide for yourself, but i wouldn't recommend it based on what i've seen so far.

Seen only two episodes so far .. (what a mouthful for a title!) I can only share that this series very much reminds me of Escaflowne, Fushigi Yugi and most definitely Juuni Kokki (12 Kingdoms). As I will admit to having a weakness for these types of epic stories, so I would probably rate this one higher than it should. But at least you know where I am coming from... so enjoy.
