Cat's Eye is mostly an episodic action-comedy title focused on the titular trio of sister thieves stealing valuable artwork made by their missing father and outwitting clumsy detective Toshio and those among the Inunaki police department. The meat of the series is pretty much the Kasugi sisters outwitting police, criminals and elaborate security systems to get whatever art piece of their father's they wish to claim. While there are some hints of depth regarding the problems that their father had regarding his artwork, Cat's Eye doesn't do much with addressing them as it is too focused on the episodic heists that the trio perform and this storytelling style tends to get rather repetitive pretty quickly. The visuals for it are rather dated and resort to animation shortcuts rather frequently, while the only notable highlights of the soundtrack are the catchy 80s vocal tracks used for OP and ED sequences in both seasons of the show. Unless you are a diehard fan of 80s anime, the repetitive storytelling style of Cat's Eye is likely to turn away many fans.

City Hunter. I recognize his drawing style (for a moment I thought one of the sisters, Ai-chan, was actually Kaori!). Whereas most, if not all, of the other fansubs were shows that had only come out in the last couple years, this one is surprisingly old. Cat's Eye seems to be regarded as a classic in Japan; I've seen references to it several times in more modern series (especially good was the one in Lucky Star). How do fansubbers even get their hands on recordings of shows this old? Last updated Thursday, February 07 2008. Created Wednesday, February 16 2005. |
Having been generously provided with a great number of fansubs, most of which went by titles which I had never even heard of, I went internet surfing to find some clues about their contents. I was intrigued to find that Cat's Eye was based on a manga created by Tsukasa Hojo, who is also responsible for a long-time favorite of mine, ||||||||
