Heat Guy J. I can't say that I think too fondly of it nowadays. There isn't too much to it since it is based on a video game series. Rion goes to a location, recovers more details on his past, and confronts one enemy after the other up to his confrontation with evil supercomputer Dorothy. In each battle, Rion has a psychic showdown with said enemies as the intense light shows make for the animation highlights to the OAV. However, there isn't much in the way of depth given to the characters. The main focus of the series is unveiling more pieces of the main goal that Rion has to fulfill. While simple enough to follow, I didn't feel too engaged in the plot developments. In addition, I felt turned off by the character designs and music. With exception to Lillia, the other main characters were made with either a goth-like or emo appearance that seemed like an attempt to make them have attitude to appeal to horror/ action fans. But, this felt way too forced for me. In addition, the English dub I watched of Galerians featured a heavy rock soundtrack that seemed to be planted only in action scenes. The problem here was that none of the songs gave off any mood to the scenes that took place in the series, not that there was any mood I could find in Galerians whatsoever. There are better video game-based anime titles out there that are way better than Galerians: Rion. Don't waste any time or money on this boring heap of garbage. Last updated Monday, February 16 2009. Galerians, this one-shot OVA is a completely computer generated feature. The CGI animation is okay, but not up on the level of Square Pictures. Taking place in the dark and dreary year of 2522(yet another futuristic anime that is set far in the future but still looks like present day except shinnier!), the story opens up inside a research hospital where a young man named Rion awakens to find himself part of some experiment. After torching some of the guards with his firestarter powers, he makes his way to a computer room and finds that his parents left him there year ago, and the scientist whose been torturing him this whole time was a cyborg. Rion proceeds to his family's old mansion and comes across a killer psychic called Birdman(no relation to the attourney!). He is a Galerian which are people with psychic powers, and claims his brother killed Rion's parents. After a little DBZ-style duel, Rion destroys Birdman, and discovers a lonely psychic girl named Lilia is waiting for him with a computer virus in her memory that will bring down a powerful computer named Dorothy who created the Galerians. Rion then heads to a hotel in town to find Lilia. After torching Birdman's brother and a really little Galerian momma, Rian and Lilia head to find Dorothy on the top of a major complex in the middle of the city. Dorothy is a giant computer made to look like the body of a giant mechanical woman. Lilia downloads the virus through Rion after its learned he's a Galerian too. Dorothy is destroyed, but so is Rion, or so it seems. Following this was the Playstation 2 game, Galarians: Ash, that picks up where the first game left off. Since Galerians: Rion was a direct adaptaion of the first Galerians video game, you can play Galerians: Ash to find out what happened after that. This OVA feels like they took footage directly from the game though and just put it together with new footage, but all the animation used is original for this feature. In the American relase, there is a special track with all new background music and sound effects on the DVD, as well a dub track with the original audio. This is the third official anime title to be released through Image Entertainment(if CGI counts as anime)along with Hyper Police and Pychic Force. The American version of the soundtrack is available on CD.
