Shin Seiki Evangelion and Serial Experiments Lain easy to understand. With barely any spoken dialogue, the symbolism of Angel's Egg lies in the actions of the characters that occur throughout this movie. Blink and you may miss out on something relevant to the themes of this movie. Watching this movie would require devotion in order to understand all the religious elements, so much so that it could be quite some time to think about compared to Eva and Lain. With this much commitment, I shall warn folks that this isn't a title for causal-watching anime fans. It's a thinking person's anime title. For a 1985 anime title, the artwork for Angel's Egg was a feast for the eyes featuring dark, dreary environments in a post-apocalyptic world. The haunting soundtrack fits in very well with the dreary mood of this anime title. If you are willing to open up your mind to complex symbolism, then you should have a fun time getting into Angel's Egg. Anyone else may want to avoid this title as there is no action whatsoever within Angel's Egg. Last updated Monday, May 26 2008. Created Monday, May 26 2008. |
If you are looking for the most baffling anime title that there is, then wait until you see Angel's Egg. With the most complex amount of religious symbolism I've seen in a title, this title makes ||||||||

So what if God hadn't been that merciful, but rather of the "shin-ma" type that is known from animes like Kyuuketsuki Miyu (TV)? What if the dove didn't find someplace to land, but died instead of returning? There is no need to write anything about what is actually happening in this fantastic movie. Even more than Evangelion or Serial Experiments Lain this film will require you to take a lot of time to think about what you have just seen - and this is about the only element of the film, besides the awesome pictures and music (you might possibly compare its effect to "Koyaanisqatsi" or the closing section of "2001" in a way). So if you look for any kind of 'action', you are dead wrong here. But if your mind is open and you are willing to embrace the unexpected, then ... try this one. Last updated Tuesday, June 03 2008.
