Tondemo Skill de Isekai Hourou Meshi S2
(Two episodes watched):
I remember that S1 of this show was one of my favorites of the season, because it was genuinely funny and had a fairly complex and novel plot. But episode one of S2 didn't strike me the same way. Nothing really LOL funny happened and it sort of felt like a re-hash of material we had seen before. Mukoda gets yet another familiar that is attracted to his cooking, 'Dora-chan", a 'pixie dragon'. But we've basically seen this (twice) before. And there's a lengthy lesson on cooking giant tarantula meat, which, it turns out, tastes much like crab. I hoped this show was just taking a little time to catch up to the pace of season one. Unfortunately, episode two felt about the same. The problem seems to be that this is basically a comedy, but for some reason season two just isn't anywhere near as funny as season one was. Elf guild master Elrand is obsessed with the dead dragon that Mukoda delivered and we are obviously supposed to laugh at that—but why? Humor occurs when we are led to expect one thing but get something else, which nevertheless makes sense. But I had no idea that Elrand was fascinated by dragons, so I didn't have any idea what attitude he would take. I guess a guild master should behave with restraint, but that's a pretty weak joke. How is it even possible for the jokes of a second season to fall so flat when those of the first were OK? Both were written by the same person, weren't they (yes, Ren Eguchi)? Were the anime people allowed to considerably rewrite the story and insert jokes of their own? Whatever the case may be, I am left wondering if this sequel that I had looked forward to so much will be worth watching at all.
