During the first half of episode one, this show was seeming fairly intriguing. Shigeru is a good person who has been screwed by factors completely beyond his control; how will he turn things around? He thought this second life offer was a joke and on a whim specified things like he will 'experience excruciating pain and be dismembered and die if I have sex'. Just touching a girl is extremely painful to him, and he has made it extremely difficult for him to earn money as well. But the second half wasn't nearly as interesting. This show had been looking like a drama early on, what with all of Shigeru's problems, but it became clear later that it would be a comedy and I wasn't exactly howling with laughter. And of course Shigeru will have out-of-this-world stats when it comes to fighting, just like virtually every main character in an isekai anime does. I hope the show has a halfway decent plot since it isn't looking hilarious. I was a little curious about the three people who had been resurrected along with Shigeru--will we learn anything interesting about why they chose to trade in half of their lives for a restart (all of them are 16 now)? Or what entity offers such a deal and why (extremely unlikely)? I hope this isn't just another anime which has a weak gag as part of it's premise then tries to squeeze as many laughs as it possibly can out of it for twelve episodes or so. Not all that much happens in episode two. The team gets accustomed to life in this town and then hires a guide to familiarize them with a dungeon nearby, but this guy has a funny look on his face so you know he'll betray them somehow. When he inevitably does, Shigeru employs WWW-style moves to fight them, which seemed more ridiculous than funny to me. It turns out that Seiji, the team leader, has a remarkable ability of his own (and Shigeru once met him back in Japan). Last updated Saturday, July 26 2025. Created Tuesday, July 15 2025. |
