Four girls join an Earth Defense force in the near future. They aren't quite ready and none of them are sure of themselves, but it's up to them to save the earth from a rogue comet headed straight for it. This series follows the four girls as they deal with their careers and emotional development.

What's the secret of the Comet Blasters and why do the space pilots dislike the Earthbound ones?

With "4" being pronounced "Vier" in German, the title appears to be a play on words with "stratosphere".

Stratos 4 mixes slice-of-life, sci-fi, drama and comedy in its focus on a group of teenage girls part of a military force tasked with preventing meteors and comets from impacting the Earth. The series has episodes mixed between the pressures faced by the girls on missions and filler episodes featuring comedy or mundane moments. The former episodes have hints dropped of some shady government activity at points that are unveiled more as the series progresses and one of the girls even having some mystery to her, while the latter had their moments of chuckling from me via the show's comedy though it's mostly hit or miss and a couple episodes seemed like an excuse to get fan service moments out of the female cast, as Stratos 4 does a fair amount of bath scenes, clothes changing scenes, some bathing suit moments and panty shots. Fortunately, the fan service doesn't detract too heavily from the series and while quite cliched, the focus on the missions of the girls have their suspenseful and engaging moments during their missions to shoot down meteors and whatever government conspiracy they get entangled in. However with this series being slice of life to a good extent, your mileage will vary on how well you warm up to it, especially with its mixing of sci-fi to its premise.

Ok I finished this series. It's ok...Drawings are ok, story is nice but it's too technical.
And the government conspiracy issue that occurs in Eps 10 was too little, too late.
They spend 10 minutes out of every episode just talking about launching. #11 Ready, #11 Clear, #11 in Position, #11 Hold at Runway 17, #11 Ready to Launch, #11 Launch, #11 3 2 1 Launch, #11 Release Interlocks....and so on.
Edit : Removed Ecchi because there is NO ecchi..unless you could 1/4 second shower scenes. This isn't ecchi. It's mostly drama with some Comedy thrown in.
If that was fixed this would be a better anime. It's defintely for the more Military Jet oriented kind of person.
If you want something better watch Stellvia of the Universe.
