Atarashii Joushi wa Do Tennen
(One episode watched):
This show has some spirit, but I found it to simply not be funny enough. It is about as funny as the cartoon page in the newspaper. Some of the jokes are based on puns of Japanese words and therefore make no sense at all to Westerners. Others are based on the Japanese fable of a character named Momose. And there doesn't seem to be much of an ongoing plot, either. Shirosaki is a complete airhead who can't handle an I-phone, gets stuck in the doors of subway trains, can't tell a cat from a tree, but is nevertheless brilliant at coming up with ideas for advertisements, which is hard to wrap one's mind around. Some of the other managers seem to have odd quirks as well. The premise is sort of amusing, but with neither a plot nor LOL jokes, I feel that we have pretty much already seen all there is to this show. Maybe, as an ANN reviewer suggested, people who have worked at abusive Japanese businesses like Momose just need a 'feel good' show like this which sort of ridicules bosses.
