Our protagonist was once a Japanese 'fan of any and all vending machines ever made'. But he once made an unwise attempt to prevent one from falling from the back of a truck in motion, and now finds himself reborn in an isekai world--as a vending machine.

(Two episodes watched):

A laughable, bizarre premise--but the thought quickly came to mind, 'can it really be made to work?'. Many isekai series have silly premises, but once you get beyond those they have basically shot their bolt and have little left to offer. Basically, a good series will need more than one bizarre joke. Fortunately, Jidou- seemed to be remaining fairly 'fresh', that is, funny, throughout episode one. The dialogue remained amusing, with lines like 'pleasing somone this much makes me feel blessed to be a vending machine'. 'Boxxo', as he is named by the first human he meets--'Lammis' a female hunter of extraordinary strength--starts out with a meagre inventory of mineral water and corn soup for sale, but soon learns how to convert the local coins into points that can be used to stock additional items. He also begins to figure out how to communicate with Lammis, which starts with little more than using prerecorded phrases as substitutes for 'yes' and 'no'. I thought that was sort of clever. So far, this is seeming like not just a one-trick act but a well-rounded one that should be fun.

Episode two, however, didn't seem quite as novel. Boxxo and Lammis accompany a small expedition that is hunting 'Fiend Frogs' in order to keep the adventurers fed. Since the start, one question about this show has been that while becoming a vending machine is odd and amusing, isn't it such a handicap that there will be a distinct limit on how far the plot can go? The only way the show can remain entertaining with a protagonist who cannot fight or love would be with exceptionally clever writing. But I wasn't seeing that in episode two. On the contrary, it looks like Boxxo is developing an ability to fight, whether by using magical shields, transforming into another shape(?), or using a silly chemical trick. Instead of witty dialogue we get a fight with the King Frog. I was distinctly disappointed and began thinking that maybe I wouldn't watch this show after all.
