(One episode watched): "Impossible! One swing, and he takes down four, even five at once!" Yes, quite impossible--impossible for me to take seriously, that is. While I remembered several plot points and recognized characters from the old RK series (which I watched on Adult Swim around twenty years ago), I didn't feel any unique spark or charm to this new version. The only reason to redo an old series is if the new version will be significantly better, but nothing stood out about this one. The villain of episode one is just a two-dimensional murderer (was he, or anyone else, killed by Kenshin's unusual reverse-blade sword?). It seems like this new re-telling of the classic story will just be riding on the coattails of its predecessor rather than doing anything important differently. Maybe episode two will be better, but the curiousity that led me to choose episode one of this show over numerous other new anime as my watch for the evening quickly evaporated.
