Akane finds herself abruptly dumped by her boyfriend Takuma, who has fallen for a girl he met while playing the online video game 'Forest of Savior' with Akane. While venting her frustrations in FOS Akane encounters a somewhat annoying laconic guy known as Yamada. At a real-world gathering of FOS players she discovers that Yamada is actually a handsome guy and a widely admired professional gamer who Takuma in particular worships. The thought occurs to her that maybe she can bribe Yamada to pose as her new boyfriend and make Takuma jealous.

Yamada-kun to Lv999 no Koi o Suru
(One episode watched):
Fairly far into episode one, the thought occured to me that this show wasn't really 'taking off'. The premise seemed to promise hilarity, but it was barely delivering a smile. It seemed pretty familiar and didn't seem to have anything all that novel and distinctive to it. Of course there's also the romance element, but that didn't thrill me either. Maybe the problem is that we don't really get to know Akane well enough to seriously sympathize with her. She's been jilted, but that's about all we know about her. And Yamada has an intentionally blank personality, which definitely doesn't help. I was wondering if anything that would make me sit up and take notice was ever going to happen. There's a 'shocking' scene near the end where Akane, after getting drunk the night before, finds herself semi-nude in a bed in Yamada's apartment. But I just know that there will be a plausible explanation for this (her dress got dirty at the FOS meet) and nothing really saucy has taken place. So, my impression was of a disappointingly milquetoast sort of show. The chances that it would ever get much better seemed slim, so I quit watching.
