Monkey D. Luffy embarks on his quest to find the legendary treasure "One Piece" and become the Pirate King, along with his crew: the swordsman Zoro, a former pirate-hunter who specializes in three sword techniques; Nami, a manipulative female thief and navigator; Usopp, an excellent sniper and a habitual liar; and Sanji, the suave, womanizing chef with the deadly kicks. Combines comedy with moments of very character-driven drama.

[361+ episodes (as of June '08 and counting) based on the manga of the same title. Series was licensed in the U.S. by 4Kids, meaning the English dub was heavily editited, domesticated, and dumbed down. 4Kids did lose the license though and FUNimation now has the license. FUNimation will start dubbing the series from episode 144 for release on TV. However, they are trying to decide on how to work the uncensored/unedited DVD releases. FUNimation will be redubbing the episodes 4Kids did and the DVD's will have both the new English and the original Japanese version w/ subtitles. Reviews here reflect the unedited Japanese version of the series.]

Through 13 episodes...

A nice, strong, irreverent start to the show, and that's a good thing. There is a strain of tediousness though as the Buggy the Clown story has dragged in places to me. Sadly, the Cat Pirates arc has dragged more (which you can read about here). I like how he has scored Zoro and Nami as crew members. The animation is whacked at times, and comes off reeking of cheapness. The character designs or odd, but not unacceptable. More later.

301 episodes watched!

This is a very funny series that i'm really enjoying. As you can see, i'm currently on episode 301 which my friends would say i'm crazy!

The animation is different, the characters are weird, and the story line is very different, which is what i liked about it. Some times it would get a bit too dramatic and emotional for me - especially the part where they help out the princess and the part where usopp is sulking about their ship. I did think that they pulled it a bit too long. There were also a lot a flash backs. But, yeah... overall i like it and now i'm waiting for the next episode to come out, can't wait to see them save Robin!

right here I'm reviewing the manga because I haven't watched enough of the anime to do it- One Piece is amazing. It's funny, lighthearted, cheery, and yet is wonderfully deep. Although the art is simple, it's sort of refreshing. The characters are developed extremely well. Althought he fight scenes are long, they are well thought out and don't involve crude punching. At least the characters use strategies to fight.
Definitely read/watch this one.

One Piece is definately one of my top 3 animes. To me, it seems to be one of todays modern super-animes, with the potential to become as popular as naruto or dragonball (excuse the reference to it...) in North America as well as Asia.
The art and animation are considerably different than your average anime, and the stile, while seeming a bit odd at first, has grown on me a lot. Its a very well drawn anime, to be sure.
The Characters are what have attracted me to this anime the most. Each character, which not having a unique character concept, is still a very unique character nonetheless.
Luffy, the rubberman, is completely carefree and immature and not reliable whatsoever, except when it comes to his ambition of becoming the Pirate King.
Zoro, a three-sword weilding maniac has the ambition to become the world's greatest swordsman, and decided that he could follow this path while accompanying Luffy.
Nami, a female theif/navigator is the only voice of reason on the ship at any given time. Luffy's irrational actions seem like they would have given her a heart attack by now :P. Nami is slightly enslaved, but Luffy makes a serious connection with her by helping her out, which is why she stopped stealing from him and joined him instead.
Usopp (his name contains the word for lie), is a liar. That's what he does. But he has some intelligence, luck, and decent sharpshooting skills. Annoying at times, but he provides some great laughs in the anime.
Sanji, easily my favorite, is the sauve, cool chef, who is a pure kick-style fighter, since he doesn't want to hurt his hands which are needed for being a chef. He falls in the 'bad-ass with a heart of gold' category, at least at first. His womanizing is pretty funny since it never really goes over the top and into being annoying.
And finally, since the anime is only fansubbed up to about ep 124 at this point, the last member of the crew is Chopper, the reindeer. He joined because Luffy thought he was just so awesome that he had to join. You see, he can talk, and has a 7-step transformation ability which really is pretty cool.
As the intro to the anime makes clear, Nico Robin, one of the bad guys, will also join them soon, but we will have to see what happens to Crocodile first....
An excellent anime, with comedy, action, plot, characters, and art to beat the rest of them.

Why does everyone love this so much? The characters are ugly, the plot is ridiculous, the action sucks, it's just not very good.

Having lost about 30 hours this weekend watching this monster of a series, (I am about 70% done), my response can only be WOW !!!! PANT, PANT, PANT. The five main characters of this series travel through a wondrously created pirate world of adventure and mystery. A place where anything is possible, the improbable is routine, and exaggeration or extremes in everything and everyone appears to be normal.
In following the adventures of Rufy (Luffy), Zoro, Sanji, Usop and Nami (Namy), their strengths and weaknesses are revealed, and if they were on their own, they probably would not last long in such a tough world, but together they appear to be invincible. Rufy (Luffy), the captain of the crew is perhaps the most unleadership like character of any series, but he cares for his friends, and they all come to trust his quirky style, weird abilities and strangely misplaced common sense approach to life.
ONE PIECE is one of the most innovative, creative and fun comedy/adventure series that I come across. The plot dashes from being serene and personal one moment, to the next moment, when everyone is charging off to stop a pirate raid. It is almost impossible to guess where the story line is going, as bad guys become good guys, weirdness pops up at almost every turn and a plot twist of 180 degrees can appear to be a calm before a pending storm.
If you enjoy the adventure/humor of Inyuasha or Yu Yu Hakusho, then you probably will enjoy this series. I will give it a good two thumbs up in the BUY category.

One Piece is a fun show to watch, though there are some unnecessary changes to the anime version than what was originally in the mangas.

The characters of One Piece, don't look like those of your average anime show, they kind of look...bizarre. However, that's one of the things I like most about it. The music's great. Songs like Believe by Folder 5, Watashi Ga Iru Yo by Tomato Cube, and Sailing Day, make the soundtracks worth buying. The opening and ending songs fit the show completely.

Luffy's the Captain of the odd crew's ship. He accidently ate some fruit that made his body like that of rubber, so now he can't swim. His crew is Zoro, Sanji, Nami, Usopp, Tony Chopper, and Robin.

One Piece's plot centers on a group of totally different people on a journey to find the treasure One Piece. They all face different problems on their adventure, but along the way they mature, and grow to care for one another. One Piece is over two-hundred episodes , and there's quite a few One Piece movies as well.

The dub is done by 4kids, the same guys responsible for those horrible Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon dubs. Not all the for 4kids actors are bad, but the company has a bad habit of heavily editing every series they dub.

All in all One Piece is worth buying. I think it will appeal to those of all ages.

One Piece is a great anime series that is suitable for everyone. What do you want from an anime? Action? Comedy? Adventure? Hard to believe stuff and new ideas? Well One Piece has got it all.
I love the characters and especially the enemies. Every character is special in his own way, and so are the enemies. You will get a lot of new stuff from this series. There is also a game on the PSX which I have played earlier and it is also damn funny.

Truth to tell, this is one of my favourites, I got hooked first by the manga and the anime soesn't deviate much.
The story is about Luffy who wants to find the legendary One Piece, a treasure that was hidden somewhere in the Grand Line by the Previous and deceased Pirate King. One Piece is said to be so valuable that you could by the whole world with it. Luffy also want to become a Pirate King, which no one has been for the last twenty years or so. There is one problem mowever, since Luffy has mistakenly eaten a demon fruit, he has the abilities to stretch his body like rubber and is almost indestructable except for one thing, he can't and will never be able to swim. Those who has the demon/devil fruit will be those rejected by the sea, drop them in and they'll sink like stone.
The story is enjoyable and has surprising depth. The few earlier episodes introduce the characters, Luffy and why he wants to become a Pirate King, Roronoa Zoro, Luffy's second in command who wants to become the greatest swordsman in the world, Nami the navigator and thief who seems to be materialistic but hid a painful past and Usopp a coward and a lier but has gift in ranged weaponaries, a trait he inherited from his father, Yasopp a gunner for the Red-Hair Shank who he has never seen as a child, Sanji the incredible cook who search for All-Blue, a part of the ocean which holds all the marine species in the world and is deadly with his feet and has an eyes for the ladies. There is also Chopper who is a reindeer and medic, i don't know much about him yet and if I am not mistaken another woman will join them.
The characters are diverse yet they were hold together by their manic captain,Luffy who sometimes do crazy and irrational things that usually turn out to be the best thing to do.
Their enemies are also interesting and bizzare.
It is interesting to note that at one point when Luffy is about to be beheaded and surely dies a freak storm moves in and saves him, coincedence or fate?
I can rave on and on so I will end here and recommend all to buy it.

This is one of my favorite series, because in my opinion it reaches precisely the right balance between madcap comedy and serious emotional moments. Usually well-paced; the fight scenes occasionally drag, but are usually entertaining nonetheless thanks to Luffy's antics.
The main characters are all genuinely likable. Although the character designs might be a little strange to newcomers, they are interesting and unique, and each character definitely has his or her own style.
The series pays a lot of attention to the depth of its characters. Each has plenty of backstory revealed in various episode plots and flashbacks. The humor is also mainly driven by character traits and situations. The major emotional themes of loss and debt, as well as friendship and the pursuit of dreams, are handled well.
If you're not a fan of pirates or action-adventure, I'd only rate this a rent/watch, but it's a definite buy if you're looking for something unusual with plenty of action, and lots of heart.
