Rein Shroud was a Beast Tamer in the party of the hero Arios Orlando. He thought he had earned the trust of his fellow members, but they unceremoniously expel him for being of little use in actual combat (Beast Tamers are unsuited to that). Rein decides to take up a new occupation as an adventurer, and while taking the test to become one he meets Kanade. She is a rare 'Cat Spirit', and a member of an 'Ultimate Species', and gladly enters a contract with Rein. She brings something to his attention that he had been unaware of: his skills as a Best Tamer are actually quite extraordinary.

Beast Tamer

The curse of reviewers: a show which has nothing terribly wrong with it but nothing outstanding either. There's little to complain about and little to praise, so what do you write about? The plot of Beast Tamer quickly struck me as simplistic and fairly predictable. Rein seems like a nice guy who harbors no resentment against Arios or his former comrades, which is good for him but does not make for an exciting show for us. It looks like he will assemble a harem of half-human, half-animal girls, but there was little or no fanservice and the show does not feel at all kinky. What exactly does it mean to be 'tamed'? Kanade doesn't mind it at all; is that realistic? She hasn't become a voluntary slave, has she? Also predictable was the realization that Rein is actually an amazing tamer (he can tame numerous animals at once while most tamers can only handle one at a time). Main characters in isekai series almost always just happen to have some extraordinary ability that sets them apart from the rest. I'm guessing that eventually Arios will come crawling to Rein for some sort of critical service that only Rein can provide. So, I was left feeling little curiousity about how Rein and his girls will fare.
