(Two episodes watched):

Episode one of this show did not particularly excite or intrigue me. Yes, Yu is a former idol but why did he really become entranced by jockeying? He seems to have experienced some very colorful visions of galloping horses, and there's mention of things like 'The Sounds of Nature' (whatever those are), but I still do not understand what motivates him and therefore do not feel all that motivated to watch. I'm also unconvinced that he's interesting enough himself to be worth it. Of course there's an accident on the day of the opening ceremony, because, you know, something has got to happen to make what would otherwise be a pretty boring situation interesting. This has happened time after time in anime about guys venturing into new sports or lines of work, and has become very tiresome. They could always spend the time and effort making the protagonist more relatable and likable. I thought for a moment that I detected a hint of Boy's Love when Yu almost falls and is caught by Shin Kazanami, another new student and a guy with a free-thinking attitude (which is also sort of generic for shows of this sort). Lay-duce animation seems to be an outfit that usually does in-between animation but occasionally takes command itself. I was a bit surprised to learn that there's more than one kind of jockey, but it general the episode didn't make me think it would make jockeying all that interesting. I watched episode two, because sometimes a show just needs some extra time to get things right, but I did not detect any interesting conflict coming together. Why should I care whether Yu manages to become a successful jockey? It has never really been explained why he felt a need to change careers, nor do I feel that I have gotten to know him and consider him someone I could sympathize with. Nor does jockeying seem all that interesting. So, I think I will quit this show. It doesn't seem to be really going anywhere.
