Sabikui Bisco had potential at being a solid adventure anime at first during its first half, having a good foundation for world building and story exploration with its focus on Akaboshi and Milo trekking the dessert of their dystopian world to seek out a cure for a mysterious disease called the Rust affecting the populace. Unfortunately, its second half stumbles quite a bit in its developments having some rather underwhelming outcomes for Milo and Bisco's fights with Kurokawa and things getting too conveniently with its story resolution. Thus far for 2022, one of the more disappointing titles I've seen for this year.

Unevaluated Stretch [series:4424#628]
(One episode watched):

This is one of those shows where the brief synopsis above does a better job of explaining what's going on than episode one of the show itself does. After watching the first episode I was left with little idea why mushrooms would have any effect on 'rust syndrome', let alone what triggered the nuclear scale explosion that devastated Tokyo, why giant crabs seem to wander the desert, why the mayor's bodyguards wear rabbit masks, why a cruise missile seems to transform into a mushroom, why a transport plane seems to be made up to look like a sad dog, etc, etc. Lots of weird shit happens, but episode one doesn't make much of anything clear. It's almost like this show is being bizarre just because it can. I was left wondering if I'd be able to wrap my mind around it and remember all this WTF stuff when episode two comes along. Nevertheless, we meet some interesting characters and if this show manages to tie things together it might be fun. Or it might just keep getting weirder and weirder.

I started watching episode two and in quick succession was treated to flying humpback whales and mushrooms that grow in the blink of an eye to fantastic size. The thought occurred to me that maybe someone just ingested a certain kind of psychadelic mushroom and then scribbled down all the images that crossed their mind. When characters ridding hippos came thundering at me, I said 'f--- it, I don't want to watch this' and switched to something else.
