This season of Aggretsuko is less focused on our titular heroine this time around and more on Haida and some of Retsuko's co-workers who contend with changing management in their workplace with the young executive Himuro becoming the new CEO of their company and looking to make budget cuts via letting go of employees and performing some potentially sketchy activity. This does make this season of the series a bit more serious in its storytelling developments compared to prior ones and hits close to home, showing how cutthroat a job within a capitalist society can be with corporate executives in many workplaces thinking of their employees as expendable cogs and looking for any excuse they can get away with, regardless of how ethical and legal it is, to let them go if they fail to perform to their expectations. This is explored through how Hanai and a few other characters are effected by the changing conditions of upper management, meant to show how younger and older generations within the company respond to said changes that include changing technologies and wanting acknowledgement from those higher up for their capabilities. The only issue I have with this focus is that it does lead to the season's ending to feel a bit rushed with resolving the workplace situation given the number of characters focused on. Another area of focus with this season is Retsuko and Haida's relationship, which is the secondary plot of this season. The prior season largely resolved Retsuko's character development, while Haida is more focused on in this season in regards to his character developments with resolving how he values himself in his relationship with our heroine. While this character development is largely reflected with the workplace plot in the series, said developments also affect how Retsuko views Haida throughout this season of Aggretsuko. In short, it looked like this fourth season of Aggretsuko chose to get a bit ambitious with what it chose to tackle for its storytelling and largely succeeds with exploring how Hanai and a few others are affected by the changing leadership within their workplace.
