Sol Bianca

Notables:
The all-female crew of the spaceship Sol Bianca find themselves involved in an interplanetary civil war and at the mercy of a power-mad emperor when a treasure hunt goes awry. Girls, guns and hardsuits that look suspiciously like those in Bubblegum Crisis are the order of the day with this anime.

I Liked Sol Bianca, but only because I thought that ship was cool...But there are better flicks out there...I personally thought the idea was cool when it first came out...5 chicks, 1 space ship...but it just didn't develop that much for me...I did like the ending song, and like i said, that ship is really cool but the show just didn't keep my attention...

Rent 7 7 8 5 Midnighter [series:411#94]
Sol Bianca is simple, brainless escapist fun in much the same vain as Star Wars. Like Star Wars, Sol Bianca features a cast of very likeable characters fighting a ruthless tyrant bent on ruling the galaxy with a story borrowing heavily from things that have come before it.
Sol Bianca was a very enjoyable hour, and although I would not recommend jumping up and buying it, this anime is well worth a rent. The animation is pretty good for the time, with some excellent mecha shots of the ship doing technological stuff, and more actual character movement than is usually present in anime. Rather than just still shots with only the mouth moving (ala Hanna Barbara) as in most anime, Sol Bianca utilizes background movement and gestures to good effect.
The character designs themselves, by animation director Naoyuki Onda (To-y, BE-BOY Kidnapp'n Idol) are both visually interesting and passably unique. I particularly liked Janny. That haircut rules! The hardsuits were straight out of Bubblegum Crisis. Unfortunately, the music was so forgettable that I didn't feel I could fairly rate it.
The story was kind of weak, but not particularly bad by any means. It serves its purpose of being a vehicle for the action, borrowing heavily from other sci-fi shows and animes. Still, when the box blurb was
"Treasure is a pleasure...but a blaster is a girl's best friend." one can't really be expecting brain-food.
Overall, Sol Bianca is worth checking out for sure. It's a fun way to spend a rainy afternoon, and at only 60 minutes, even if one doesn't like it, it's not as if it was a huge commitment.
