This sort of reminds me of Prison School--except that it isn't as good. The problem is that whereas Prison School was a funny show, I don't remember BSM ever drawing a single laugh from me. I wondered whether I was supposed to be taking it seriously, since it clearly wasn't trying to be a comedy. But the premise is so bizarre--girls who apparently can slice anyone they please in order to maintain order in what's supposed to be an ordinary school but is actually more of a detention center--that I don't see how it can work as anything but a comedy. One of the Five Supreme Sword girls assaults Nomura in such a manner that she can only be trying to kill him, because that's what would have happened if he had failed to block any one of dozens of attempted blows. That's not exactly funny. I could only guess that the martial artistry (and all the fancy terminology that goes with it) was meant to be the main draw here, because nothing else seemed capable of doing so. Little or no effort seemed to be made to make any of the characters likeable or interesting. In the end, BSM (I actually saw no sign of Machiavellianism here) just felt like a weak imitation of Prison School. Don't watch this show if there's any way you could watch Prison School instead.
