The original Attack on Titan series seemed to me to be a show which got off to a very good start, with a terrifying threat and likeable characters struggling against it. But it also seemed to go downhill from there, on a slope that got steadily steeper as it plunged. The basic problem was that we never got any answers; we know little more about what exactly the Titans are and where they came from than we did after we had watched the very first episode four years ago. Instead of answering our original questions this show would just leave us with more and more unanswered questions as it progressed. It became frustrating, confusing and unfocused. An interminable battle was being fought against the Titans, but I saw no sign of it being anything but a stalemate at best. I felt I was being strung along by anime makers who had no intention of ever reaching a climax, and expected me to keep biting indefinitely. So, I decided that the only way I would watch Titan 2 would be if I got them impression that the makers had realized that that was a mistake and had adopted a new technique of storytelling. But, alas, I see little sign of change. I suspect that we'll get the same: again and again, inexplicable things will happen, but we'll never get a semblance of an explanation. Plenty of fearless warriors swinging from cables, hacking at Titans, and sometimes meeting gruesome fates--but not much of a story. Therefore, I think I will decline to watch this latest season of AoT. Fool me once, shame on you.
