In a world where five artificial islands exists, Mamori is a "mermaid" transferred to one of those islands. When Mamori is attacked, a newly transferred girl named Mirei saves her. The enemy doesn't stop, however, and the two are soon cornered. Just when they think all hope is lost, Mirei kisses Mamori, and Mamori turns into a sword. Mirei then wields the sword and launches a counterattack against their enemies.

Valkyrie Drive -Mermaid-
(Half of one episode watched):
Nevermind the synopsis above, because it is all window dressing. Here's what really happens in this show: buxom women get their breasts caressed in such an aggressive and arousing manner that they get horny, which causes them to transform into weapons which their partner uses in battles against similar fighters. Do you think it is the plot or the girls getting off which is supposed to attract viewers to this show? You are correct. Nipples, by the way, are in full view and the girls sometimes wind up totally naked except for a shred of fabric in a strategic location. In other words, this is thinly veiled porn. There is also bondage and it gets rather ugly at times. I can only imagine the humiliation which the VAs acting out the roles in this show must feel. I fast-forwarded through the second half of the episode and got the impression that no credible explanation of WTF is going on here was forthcoming (it was unnecessary, after all). When I asked myself what I would do to salvage the remainder of this series if I were in charge after episode one, the best idea I could come up with would be to have protagonist Tokonome wake up at the beginning of episode two and realize that it had all been an awful dream. Then, maybe, go to school and meet the shameless girls from her dream as new transfer students. A comedy, perhaps, but I must not forget to hire some credible comedians to write jokes. These new girls don't know what Tokonome is so uptight about, since they have no memory of doing such things and seem decent enough, but she has been mildly traumatized by the experience. It might work, or might not. Anything would be better than more of the stuff we got in episode one of VDM. But this show is exactly what it was intended to be, and the makers are no doubt perfectly happy with it.
