This is pretty much the anime equivalent of the Terminator involving a deadly cyborg chasing after its human target and having a freelance reporter protect her from the threat. Black Magic M-66 is effective at creating genuine suspense out of the situation as the reporter and military personnel struggle to halt the cyborg's rampage while trying to keep the scientist's daughter alive and has its moments of nice action sequences in spite of the outdated animation style, particularly the final confrontation with the cyborg atop a construction platform. The plot is a bit barebones due to the OVA's heavy focus on action and suspense, but is worth a quick watch if you are craving a short sci-fi action title.

I just got this movie recently and I couldn't help but be disappointed, The animation was quite outdated and the action would have been much better if the quality of the animation was higher.
This movie so reminded me of terminator (the first one) a diehard robot without emotions programmed to kill a defenseless woman, frankly its been done before.
I didn't mean to give the impression that this was a bad movie cause it isnt all that bad. The action keeps going at a nice pace and as it is strictly an action movie theres not much more you could ask for.

I Enjoyed this anime but I do have a problem. The translation just wasn't good. In some places the words don't really match the lip movements & in other the voice acting doesn't fit the expresion. In The end the narration was very soft & hard to hear. But The story itself & the headstrong Sybil makes it very enjoyable. I can't really remember any music. The M66s Look decent & follow the old anime rule 'female droids are hot, male droids are....male droids.' (Got that from a site & laughed myself silly) I love the weapons the M66s use, from lasers to bombs to shrapnel & general kicks & jumps. It really is fun to whatch even with the bad dubbing

This was an decent little anime. The story is unusually smart for an action film, and, because it's Masamune Shirow, filled with tons of nice little touches. The animation itself is good to very good throughout, and excellent in the first fight between the army and the 2 rogue M66's. The M66's themselves look pretty good, and the ideas presented are interesting. An Outer shell that explodes into shrapnel if the M66 is caught, for example. The human characters look strangely pudgy, though I understand that the film was going for a bit more realistic look. Unfortunately, it doesn't translate very well in anime, certainly not as well as Ghost in the Shell or Black Jack. The colors were very nice, very subdued and bleak, very much like Masamune Shirow's art, and much more suited to the dark story than the brightly colored Appleseed film.
Overall, I really liked this anime, and found very little to complain about. The animation was nice, the story good, and the military tactics were fairly sound, for the most part. Fans of Masamune Shirow MUST check this out, and even casual anime fans will enjoy it.
