Three years ago, the world learned that harpies, centaurs, catgirls, and all manners of fabulous creatures are not merely fiction; they are flesh and blood - not to mention scale, feather, horn, and fang. Thanks to the "Cultural Exchange Between Species Act," these once-mythical creatures have assimilated into society, or at least, they're trying. When a hapless human teenager named Kurusu Kimihito is inducted as a "volunteer" into the government exchange program, his world is turned upside down. A snake-like lamia named Miia comes to live with him, and it is Kurusu's job to take care of her and make sure she integrates into his everyday life.

On the one hand, Monster Musume sticks out from your typical harem anime comedy in the fact our male lead Kimihito winds up having to accommodate his household for various paranormal creature girls that complicate his living situation. He finds himself dealing with the unique dilemmas that can be faced living with creature girls like a centaur, harpy, and mermaid that have their unique physical quirks that he has to work around to make their living arrangements comfortable and there's a decent amount of physical comedy coming from Kimihito being continually pummeled thanks to the physical traits that each girl has. In spite of its unique premise though, Monster Musume plays out no different from your typical ecchi harem comedy in that most situations are meant to place Kimihito into having the creature girls in his household fighting to earn his affections to varying degrees, the girls are mostly defined to an archetype and lusting for Kimihito, our male lead being mostly a doormat to their antics, and there is enough perverted humor and content played up coming from the unique physical structures making up each of the girls in Kimihito's unwanted harem. While certainly a unique premise for a harem anime, Monster Musume still plays up the tiresome cliches of ecchi and harem titles with approaching Kimihito's situation with the creature girls. Only worthwhile if ecchi and harem anime titles grab your interest.

Unevaluated Stretch [series:3065#628]
(Part of one episode watched):

For one reason or another, I didn't watch episode one of MM until around three weeks into the season. And when I did, I promptly found that I hadn't missed much. The episode begins with a guy finding himself with a big-boobed chick (with a snake-like lower body) in bed with him (who would have expected such a thing!!). Before even the OP sequence had begun, I could see where this show was going and began fast-forwarding just in case anything of interest might turn up later on. After the sequence we get the two of them taking a shower in the buff together; near the end of the episode they somehow find themselves in a Love Motel. Judging from the OP sequence and the artwork here a harem of monster girls will assemble around this guy, but I had seen enough with just the first one. I decided not to waste anymore of my time and instead go watch episode two of a show which had made a good first impression on me, because after this, I deserved something worthwhile.
