Pretty much another anime based on a 4-koma manga series milking comedy off the eccentric quirks of the characters, in this case Chiyo's interactions with Nozaki and his classmates or assistants. While the artwork for this is better than average for a comedy series like this, I was totally indifferent to the show's comedy and led me not to care much for the characters since they're mostly stock archetypes. Overall, I find myself befuddled over why this series got so much fanfare back in 2014 when it is just another gag comedy based off a 4-koma manga.

Unevaluated Stretch [series:2915#628]
(Three episodes watched):

Well, here's a show which makes an honest effort to be funny (rather than just relying on fanservice or whatever), and has some talent to back the effort up. Nozaki wasn't LOL funny, but it was definitely funnier than the usual fare and felt like it might be worth watching. It's probably just another 4-koma comic adapted into an anime, and therefore won't have much of a longterm plot, but I like shows about how manga and anime get made. I just pray that the new characters don't turn out to be as annoying as the first one tries to be in the preview of episode two. This show might be able to deliver enough change and novelty to remain funny and interesting, or it might not.

I guess that while this show has an interesting premise--a girl finds the guy she has a crush on is in fact a virtually emotionless mangaka--the jokes themselves aren't all that funny after awhile. Also, the plot seems to meander about instead of going much of anywhere, which I guess was only to be expected. More characters are introduced before we have a chance to get much fun out of the initial relationship between the two main ones. And they are sometimes more annoying than likeable. What I'd like is to get an idea of how Nozaki and Chiyo really feel about each other and whether their romance will go anywhere (since the comedy alone is insufficient to satisfy me). When I watched episode three I noticed that I couldn't remember much about what had happened in the previous episode, which is never a good sign. When I needed to pick up the pace of my anime viewing, and noticed that watching Nozaki felt more like a chore than something to be looked forward to, I decided to quit. The jokes alone weren't funny enough to make the show worth watching, and there was no interesting plot to enjoy instead. Just slice-of-life, but most people's lives are pretty boring.
