More a bonus episode for fans of the series than anything that adds more to the series. Some suspense is created out of a trial that tests Akira and Urabe's relationship, but it's nothing too big since the two are trusting enough of one another at that point. Only fans of the TV anime should bother to watch this bonus OVA. Last updated Thursday, July 18 2013. Created Thursday, July 18 2013. |

The TV series as a whole had left me with such high expectations that I was a little disappointed with this extra 'filler' episode. I didn't get any major laughs out of it, and (not surprisingly) it didn't add anything important to the plotline as a whole. It didn't even add much of anything unimportant; you would think that a touch that makes sense to viewers but isn't absolutely necessary to get the drift of the series as a whole might have been included here, but instead we go off on a strange, magical tangent that seemed disjointed in comparison with the remainder of the show. I was, however, just a little disappointed--because anything that expands on such a fun show as Nazo X is a Godsend. The freak show bit was amusing and interesting on its own, even if it didn't interlock with the rest all that well. This extra episode just didn't seem to be quite as good as the average one.

the series.] Knowing the summer festival chapter from the manga I didn't expect a lot for this OVA but I was pleasantly surprised by the result. Most of the story is new material, wacky as the series but adding one new ingredient, causing "Supernatural" and "Surreal" being keywords for this episode only. It's difficult to explain the story elements without spoiling the surprising development there, so let's just say the couple's relation is put to a test, and both Urabe and Tsubaki-kun try their best not to fail. Occasional funny elements are present but the shy romance and the couple knowing each other well enough by now are the core elements of this story. Two years ago I've seen a similarly surreal episode here, in another romantic comedy I liked, but this OVA isn't a mere copy of that story, it makes full use of its unique scenario. Albeit not much is happening in terms of character development, a surprisingly interesting and slightly adventurous episode that no fan of the TV series should miss.
