Unevaluated Stretch [series:2485#628]
Ok, another martial arts high school show; will there be anything fresh about this one? Physical education here consists of unreserved hand-to-hand combat with ‘replica’ weapons that somehow ‘Don’t kill, but hurt enough to make you wish you were dead’ (who wouldn’t jump at the chance to attend such a school?). Naturally, some of the girls wear maid outfits as well. A large cast of characters is introduced, these being the notable warriors whose job it is to send the nobody students flying in all directions. And they fight, and fight, and fight--around halfway through I started fast-forwarding to see if this battle would ever end and any sort of plot would get underway. As the credits roll things finally quiet down and there are hints of a harem situation developing around this Yamato guy who’s not all that masculine yet somehow all the hot fighting chicks flock to him for some reason. But I don’t give a damn; I don’t particularly care for any of the characters (except maybe Mayu, who significantly is about the only noncombatant character in the show). Just fighting endlessly isn’t enough, in fact it does more harm that good. There is nothing of interest here; MdWnKS seems too absurd to be plausible, too stereotypical to be cool, and too combat-obsessed to be funny. There are many characters but little personality to divide among them.
