(Three episodes watched): Well, this was a show which seemed to have great promise: an outlandish theme which only someone in Japan could think of, and largely about a wacky girl who spontaneously does and says weird things ("I'm the chaos that always crawls up to you with a smile, Nyarlahotep!"). But while episode one seemed to be chock full of silly, outlandish humor (the references to the anime industry were fun, as were the touches from the books and games--like 'sanity points'), the quality of the series as a whole fell off rapidly afterwards. It turns out that Nyarla isn't particularly bright and seldom says anything witty afterwards. Instead we get the standard fanservice and lesbian theme for laughs, although by episode three it was so tired and predictable that it summoned very few from me. Casual violence as a form of humor turns me off in a hurry, too. It turns out that everything about the demonic mythology of H.P. Lovecraft has been rationalized ('aliens'), so that hardly plays any part or creates anything of interest. If outer space is involved, you might say that episode one almost came from a different galaxy as the lackluster episodes that have followed it. This show was nowhere near as serious and scary as I had originally presumed it would be, instead it is primarily a comedy--but not a very good one. I decided to drop it.
