This is pretty much a fan service episode for fans of Hayate the Combat Butler featuring the major members of the cast in a typical beach episode, mixed with the show's typical bizarre humor and the antics of Hayate's unwanted harem. Unlike most anime that shamelessly pull such episodes though, the show is clearly well aware of what it is delivering with the narrator snarking at the situation and Nagi well-aware of the ridiculous convenience of the predicament because of her wealth and otaku knowledge. If you enjoyed the first season of Hayate the Combat Butler and looking to see your favorite female cast members in bathing suits, this is worth a quick peek.

The fansub for this came labelled as episode 00 of Hayate 2. It serves as a sort of refresher course in the extensive cast, bringing them all together at once whereas only a few would generally appear in an episode. There wasn't time to actually summarize what makes each person unusual, but you get the idea. It's been a year since the original series concluded, so for me it was like "ah, there's the poor girl who's known Hayate for a long time, and the absent-minded one with a talent for the occult", etc (I'm not so good at remembering names, especially Japanese ones). the comedy was good, including the shameless delivery of fanservice--which actually wasn't all that explicit. More a parody of fanservice than fanservice per se. Everything is looking good for the return of this show.
