Earl and Fairy offers up a solid foundation for storytelling with its setting in Victorian-era Britain and focus on Lydia's role as a fairy doctor aiding in Edgar's efforts to reclaim his royal title and encountering various supernatural creatures of folklore like kelpie and sprites. The series is spread over several story arcs that explores Edgar's character and origins as he regains his royal status, becomes interested in Lydia (whom has her own personal reasons of her own for refusing to fall in love with anyone), and aiding in trying to resolve several supernatural mysteries connected to a mysterious conspiracy. Lydia's character is a fairly well-rounded one where outside of dealing with the advances of a few male characters interested in her (being a shoujo series and all), she takes on a fairly active role in aiding Edgar with the mysteries that they and their companions become involved in. Main major issue I have with the series is that being adapted from a then ongoing light novel series, later episodes feature story and characters elements never explored at all within the anime and the series ends inconclusively as a result. Still for what it offers, Earl and Fairy offers a solid mix of romance and supernatural adventure with Lydia, Edgar, and their companions for shoujo fans to check out.

Set in the 1850's, Lydia Carlton is country girl living in Edinburgh Scotland, who claims to be a "fairy doctor": someone with a depth of knowledge of fairies and an ability to communicate with them. And then one day, she gets a letter from her father inviting her to visit him in London. But the invitation is a ruse to lure her away from the safety of her home and into a strange world of intrigue and danger.

She quickly finds herself in the company or perhaps, the clutches of an enigmatic young man who claims to be Edgar, a decendent of the legendary blue knight and heir to the title of Earl of the Fairy Kingdom. Edgar explains that he is searching for the legacy of his title which was hidden someplace in England in the care of fairies and that he needs the help of a "fairy doctor" to locate it. Intrigued and bewildered by his offer, Lydia finds herself accepting a commission (or a check) to help the Earl find his missing heirloom - known as the sword of the Merrow. But while Edgar may be the 'earl of fairies', he has lost the ability to see them and in fact, doubts that they really exist. And there are others who are interesting in finding the sword too, and they are willing to use any means to secure their goals.
  • Book: an adjective to describe something that's really cool. That's because it's the first option given in predictive text when typing "c o o l".
  • Nang: cool, excellent, brilliant.
  • Oudish: very good, excellent, wicked.
  • Safa: very cool, superlative version of safe.
Do you recognize any of these terms? Do you use any of these terms? If so, them you probably will enjoy this series.

This is a good teen-girl story ... in which a pretty girl is swept off her feet by a fair haired mysterious nobleman on a quest to find a hidden treasure. The animation is rich with lots of fuzzy pastel colours and romantic situations ... All the proper ingredients for a winning story for the right crowd. And I have not even mentioned Lydia's traveling companion, her talking fluffy white haired cat .....
