(Seven episodes watched):

This seemed like a neat show with an intriguing premise, but the first episode disappointed me. The Section 9 MRI team seemed a little too good at their jobs; Maki can even pilot a helicopter! I fear that they will do everything from employing MRI to arresting the culprits at gunpoint, which would be hard to take seriously. The story seemed rushed and the solution to the case wasn't particularly remarkable. Episode one involves new team member Aoki arriving and being briefed on what the unit does, but if the ED sequence is any indicator team leader/bishounen boy Maki will be the star of the show. Anyway, I get the impression that the original premise of Himitsu isn't going to be used to anywhere near it's full potential, though it will probably still be worth watching.

Episode two seemed better. The American tie was interesting; a popular (?) president has been assasinated and the team is asked to help identify the killer. In the end, however, I didn't completely "get" it; I think the arc (and possibly the series as a whole) was supposed to be a sort of morality play on just how many secrets one person is entitled to pry out of another (even if he/she is dead). But I ended up confused rather than emotionally moved. During episode four the solution to the case seemed pretty obvious to me long before Aoki had a Eureka moment. My original impression is still holding up: an intriguing premise presented in a disappointing manner.

Episode five was a pleasant surprise. Though again it wasn't hard to guess what would turn up when MRI was employed, given the clues that were already known, the motive of the crime was fairly baffling and I was left eager for the conclusion of this two-parter. And, unlike episodes 2-3, this one did turn out to be fairly surprising and intriguing, and has lifted my opinion of the series as a whole. But then episode seven seemed rather dull; there were no particular surprises revealed, even using MRI. My interest was exhausted and I quit watching at this point.
