Kaname Okimura, a student of Prefectoral Umineko Shougyou High ("Umisho" for short), doesn't know how to swim and fears deep water. Nevertheless, he joined the school`s weirdo-filled swimming club as it's manager. Then, a sunny, happy-go-lucky girl named Amuro Ninagawa who was transferred from Okinawa joined the club. Her extraordinary underwater speed and unorthodox swimming style (plus her personal habit of nude swimming -- a powerful magnet to teenage boys) surprised every club member, especially Okimura, because she reminds him a mermaid-like creature he saw only once in his early childhood.

Based on the shounen manga by Hattori Mitsuru, serialised in Weekly Shounen Magazine.

There's plenty of echi here, along with girls in tight swimwear. Yes plenty of fanservice. The art and animation was average & and the music was below average. As for the episodes... nothing that stood out... just some silly, almost pointless animation that didn't amount to much. From the onset, I never understood why Okimura was part of a swim club if he feared water... rather 'deep' water. Then after the first episode, I realized that he was a perv and thought that that would be a good reason to join.

If you're bored and with nothing to watch, this one might fill the gap. Otherwise, move on.

Unevaluated chibi [series:1619#2380]
(6 episodes watched) I've been trying hard to like this show because I enjoy the colors and the character designs. But, to borrow Stretch's phrase, it just doesn't know how to be funny. The series story doesn't appear to be going anywhere, and the episodes are basically just strung together situations that are supposed to be humorous, but aren't.

Unevaluated Stretch [series:1619#628]
(One episode watched):

Boobs and butts play the starring roles in Umisho; whoever wrote this seems to have been operating on the assumption that there is something innately hilarious about these elements of female anatomy.* Unfortunately, it's not that easy; some sort of credible joke has to be attached to incidents of fanservice in order to get the viewer to laugh. Furthermore, male main character Okimura is enjoying his incidents of good luck a bit too much, which made it hard for me to sympathize with him. In fact, the characters in general are hard to like; Amuro at least is only ditzy/naive. Character designs are relatively simplistic, indeed some verge on superdeformed. I found this introduction to the series to be discouraging; I only laughed out loud once and groaned several times. I'm guessing this will be a "Watch". I wonder, what with Seto no Hanayome (TV), is there a Mermaid craze building in Japan?
