Definitely one of the best 2007 anime titles I've come across. Moribito delivers a thrilling adventure from start to finish as Balsa protects Chagum and talk of a parallel world of spirits and demons is explored as this adventure carries on. Plus despite the show's fluid and well animated action scenes, Moribito isn't a pure action title. You also get caught up in the mindsets of the characters and the mysteries surrounding the spirit egg in Chagum's body. The major characters in this series are fleshed out enough where you get to understand their motivations and concerns for whomever they care. They are even shown to change over time, especially as Chagum adjusts to living life as a commoner while under Balsa's care. The show devotes a number of episodes depicting this aspect to Chagum's development. We even get an episode later in the series that explores Balsa's past and what led her to become a bodyguard saving lives without killing. As for the egg, the series did a good enough job keeping my interest on what its true nature was leaving me wondering what sort of developments would occur next.

With excellent visuals and animation, lively characters with depth and surprising plot developments, Moribito kept me hooked from start to finish. It was well worth my time to see and if you want a good fantasy action-adventure title to check out, Moribito should fit the bill for you.

Buy 10 9 10 8 9 10 Devil Doll [series:1580#752]
[Score: 93% = Buy+, Top 5 anime series, more consistent storyline than Juuni Kokuki]

Beautiful Art, fine animation. OP song: plain rock with male vocals (not my style, costing a higher rating for Music); ED song: silent piano ballad (much better). Certain background tunes were enjoyable, and the use of music to emphasize certain scenes (such as the cloud in the final episode) is done well.

The leads get thrown into a task; Balsa having to atone for her past makes it easy to accept her (and we get to know her story in time). The fights are not super-heroic (despite superhuman skills being available), the lead is vulnerable, and there's no one-dimensional villain - the opponents are intelligent and pursue non-trivial goals, all of which is a plus. Thus the characters remind me more of Mononoke Hime than of Juuni Kokuki.

The story has enough reasonable development and a great ending, with enough suspense moments and still more mature decisions of many characters - these alone made the series an outstanding experience for me.

Watch 8 8 7 8 8 8 Dreamer [series:1580#2279]
This is one of those stories similar to Juuni Kokuki (12 Kingdoms), but not quite as involving or powerful. The plot itself was different from your typical epic/heroic/adventure series in that it didn't portray your usual "save the world" or "save the kingdom" plot. Instead, it revolves around a lone warrioress (is that a real word?).... female warrior, trying to protect a child for both personal reasons and upon the request of the child's mother. One of the good things about this series is that the protagonist isn't depicted as an unstoppable, all-powerful figure that never gets hit or damaged. Instead, during the course of the series, its discovered that she (protagonist) really "is" human and gets seriously wounded, beat up and meets her match more than once.

The only thing that I didn't think was that great was some of the character designs. Most notibly, the "ancient" looking 4ft,2-inch grandma with the turbin...hehehe. Besides that, most of the other characters seemed to fit their profile.

Although not quite as grand or epic as Juuni Kokuki (12 Kingdoms). It was still a worthy series and comes really close to a "Buy" rating. Overall, it was a pretty good series.
