A thousand years have passed since the disaster that devastated the planet Zi. Both the land and people have spent the time recovering from the damage. Ruuji lives in an isolated costal village, where together with his father and the other villagers, they have been working hard to salvage and recover an ancient sunken Zoid. On the day that they refloat the Liger Zoid, four enemy dinosour Bio-Zoids appear and attack the village with the intent of taking control of towering generator, an ancient artifact which supports the fertility of the land and assures the success of the village. Ruuji tumbles into the cockpit of the Liger and succeeds in awaking it. The teenaged hero struggles to fight off the Bio-Zoids, when the village’s sacred sword is summoned and fuses with the Liger. The forty-foot long sacred-sword is the primary weapon of the Liger and is composed of ZI-Metal, the only type of weapon that can defeat the Bio-Zoids. While fighting Bio-Zoids, two other friendly Zoids appear to help and together they defeat the enemy. But Ruuji’s adventures in his Musame Liger have just begun....

Rent Jan-Chan [series:1030#967]
Having watched some 28 episodes (seven hours of anime? Blah!) in this series so far and I am wondering if it might be a waste of time.

But I just have to remember that this is the latest installment in the world of ZOIDs mega-series. This series has always been oriented to appeal to the ten-year-old-plus crowd, so the story tends to move a bit slower than most, want to explain issues in greater detail, and has a strong slant towards being cutesy & kitchy. And just like the earlier ZOID series, it works very well at this level. One can expect a good story about a boy hero and his band of friends (so what if it is a bit cliché) with lots of demolition action of the evil Bio-Zoids. And since Bio-Zoids are piloted by robots, 'no one gets killed' and the violence rating is kept down.

I have posted some screen shots of the first episode.

I would have to rate this series a <rent>, (unless of course you really like the ZOID series or are in the targeted age group, in which case you would probably rate it as a <BUY!>)
